With the arrival of the thirty-second publish, the Armies of Despise have finally been vanquished from the capital city of the realm, Britain. A glorious monument has been erected in Britian to commemorate the struggle to liberate the city by the people of Chesapeake.
The war was long and difficult, but the people of Chesapeake gave a valiant effort and were among the most successful compared to other shards as shown the by the statistics etched into the statue. While many people and guilds participated, the Fellowship of Virtue did not stand idly by. In fact, on many a night during the war, the Fellowship was often in the center of battle alongside the other citizens of Chesapeake. On a few ocassions, Tancred took a leading role helping organize the forces, especially in the earlier days of the great struggle. |
Winfield, Mayor of PaxLair, is perhaps the one most remembered for his efforts in bringing the people of Chesapeake together to fight the invaders. He has called for a grand Victory Celebration to take place this Wednesday evening at 9pm EST at the King's Men Theater in Britain. It will be a welcome and well-deserved celebration to all those who came to the aid of the realm and everyone is invited!
Publish32 includes a variety of new potions(Mask of Death, etc.), combat changes/fixes(Exorcism, Archery fixes, etc.) and other material(guild chat!). See the complete list of Publish32 items at UO.com. Be sure to try out Guild Chat(hit "\" key just as you use "/" in Party chat).

![]() Orcs appear to be scheming |
Recent news out of PaxLair seems to confirm that the orcs have indeed received the counter-proposal that was drafted at the last guild meeting. The proposal was written demanding near-impossible terms(see previous News story) in response to a similar set of demands from the orcs after they spurned an offer for a meeting to discuss a peace treaty after having been sighted constructing a small fortress outpost on Gyldenfeld's southern border.
According to an eyewitness, John Duke of Paxlair(aka, John Duke Ex-Dart Champion), "Upon hearing of the notes contents, Ga’kuct did the only reasonable thing; he ripped the message into pieces and threw them into the fire with a quick throwing of ‘defecation’ to seal the deal. He then called Tek to a meeting of Orcish proportions and threw me, their humble servant, over the Orc walls. No snagas(human slaves) allowed I suppose."
|
![]() Tancred leaves a hint for the orcs on his doorstep |
John Duke continues by saying, "I was unable to tell what was being said, the amount of grunts were just undecipherable, but I think it goes without saying, that revenge upon the allies of Gyldenfeld will be swift and merciless. Watch out Gyldenfeld, you’ve been warned!"
So it appears that the orcs must be planning something, undoubtedly up to no good. Exercise caution and be alert should you encounter orcs, especially if they are sneaking about town! |

![]() Anton gives mission briefing | Anton[KCR] was the host this week of the Red Wolf Cafe's Tuesday Night event. But this was no ordinary event, it was the night of the Dungeon Commandos!
Each commando team must safely escort a pack horse out of the bottom of a dungeon Anton gates everyone into. This proved no easy feat! During the first mission, all the teams failed to get the pack horse alive out of the dungeon Shame. Next came Covetous, with the commandos trying to fight their way out of the dreaded lich room. Again, all failed to accomplish their mission! |
Anton mentioned, amidst a collective groan, that the next dungeon would be even harder! Everyone prepared themselves for the worst and jumped through Anton's glowing gate - to find themselves at the bottom of the orc dungeon!
But this time things ended a bit differently with John Duke, ex-Dart Champion, and Neo of Lothlore, both hailing from PaxLair successfully leading their pack horse out of the dungeon alive and to victory. As a reward for their feat, Anton awarded them a special First Aid Kit which consisted of a basket containing bandages, potions and a nice check for 100,000 gold! Congratulations to John and Neo and a big thanks to Anton for hosting this challenging and exciting event!

![]() Winfield introduces Tancred as last speaker |
With the Despise Invasion at an end and Britain restored to peace, liberty and order, it was time to celebrate!
Winfield, mayor of PaxLair, called for a great victory party to be held in Britain at the King's Men Theater. This grand celebration saw droves of people and Winfield acted as the Master of Ceremonies introducing a bevy of speakers. Some spoke on the contributions of the tamers, some of the guilds, some even spoke of the history and lore behind the invasion to be remembered for years to come. |
Tancred RedStar of the Fellowship of Virtue was honored to be selected as the final speaker of the evening and spoke on the vital contributions of the lands of Chesapeake working together not only in times of great need but also in times of peace. He also gave a final admonition of the citizenry to remain vigilant to future threats to the realm.
Winfield then concluded the evening with a closing speech and then organized a distribution of special weapons captured from the invaders during the war as mementos.

![]() the evening's combatants |
The Fellowship of Virtue[*V*] faced off against the Nidaros Coalition in a pair of battles Sunday evening at the Hidden Fortress. The coalition consisted of the Keepers of the Crimson Rose[KCR] and the Kaar Barashalu Orc Clan[ORC]. The Fellowship began with a general frontal assault on the Fortress, but the coalition's defenses were hard to crack. Despite a series of attacks, the Fellowship was unable to breach the first wall. Time expired and the coalition had it's first victory of the night.
In the next round of battle, the coalition staged a tight assault and massed at the first wall. The Fellowship rained down a barrage of arrows, energy bolts and various field spells to repel them. The coalition maintained a tight formation and broke past the first wall and was soon at work on the second. Suprisingly, the second wall fell even faster and the Fellowship had to take up the defense from within the Fortress's internal fortifications. Despite casualities, the coalition pressed the attack and soon achieved the objective for a back-to-back set of wins! |

![]() At the finish line |
Tuesday Night was the 20th Chesapeake Regatta and was hosted by Magni[*V*] taking on the captain's hat for Tancred. Not to say Tancred, was not present, he just got to join in the race for a change! The course was Fire and Ice, which began on Ice Isle(also known as Dagger Isle) and ran north around Fire Isle and then back down south to complete the circuit around Ice Isle once more.
Although some contestants got a bumpy start, the winds blew with a mighty northerly gust and kept the race tight. At the finish line, it was not long before the winner came into view - Tancred! Not only did he win the race, but shattered the old record, posting a new record time of 13 minutes, 50 seconds! |
Magni awarded the gold prizes back at the Red Wolf Cafe to close out another successful Chesapeake Regatta. Although he has not yet announced next month's course, he gave a hint it could be a new and exciting course. Find out what the old sea dog has up his sleeve next month!

![]() Archer Showdown in Haven |
Niallis[*V*] hosted the always exciting Archer Night at the Red Wolf Cafe Thursday. After heading off to the archery buttes in Haven, the competition quickly shaped up as she had this month's tourney square off according to the rules seen in the lands of Baja. To advance past the first round, each contestant had to score at least 70 points from 3 shots. The ranks quickly thinned as the 2nd round required a score of at 110 points. This was followed by the third round and a 150 point cut-off!
Arrows and frustration flew about, but by the end of the third round there were only 3 archers left! Serendipity, Faith RedStar and Flash faced off for the grand prize - a hefty gold check. Flash proved unstoppable and with bevy of bullseyes took home the check. In addition to the top award, he also won a special award for being the first archer to win two Archer Night tourneys this year, taking home a nice unmodded, double-slayer juka bow! |
There was also a special prize of 5,000 gold pieces awarded to the archer with the lowest score of the evening. That proud distinction went to Mr. John Duke of PaxLair for scoring(or perhaps not scoring) a perfect 0 points off 3 shots! The evening concluded with an archers-only hunt which was a trek to the lands of Tokuno where a cloud of arrows fell upon numerous rune beetles. Niallas was a gracious host for Archer's Night and karma rewarded her with a pair of Gloves of the Sun!

![]() newly built fortress |
News out of Gyldenfeld's nearest neighbor, Nidaros, tells of the construction of a new battle fortress. Located strategically on the thoroughfare at the entrance to Nidaros facing Skara Brae, the huge edifice is built of sculpted stone and looms massively over the road. While there has been no official word out of Nidaros regarding the purpose of the construction project, the battle fortress will certainly serve the town well in defending it's citizens.
While the structure has completed construction, there is still some finishing and furnishing to be done. Nevertheless, the structure is open to the public if curiosity draws onlookers to inspect it's fortifications and design more closely. Some of the defensive features include protected shooting galleries for archers, step-out pads on the front of the edifice, a maze-like interior design of inner defense, cat walks on the roof, detention cells for prisoners or secure storage and a recessed front entrance. |

![]() Lissa and Te'Kug in one of the final matches |
The Gyldenfeld Spring Joust was held tonight in Gyldenfeld at the Red Wolf Cafe. Nine brave contestants entered the competition, but only one would stand tall as the Champion of the Joust! Curses were muttered, shouts of encouragement yelled and with each match, a victor's name called forth. With a rather sizeable crowd of onlookers watching, the field of entrants slowly dwindled to just three skilled warriors for the third and final round of the joust.
The Fellowship of Virtue and Gyldenfeld were well represented by the Fellowship's Guildmaster, Lissa Eldi[*V*], as she was one of the finalists. Te'Kug[ORC], of the Kaar Barashalu clan, stood for orcs everywhere as he was also a finalist. Lastly, there was the mysterious Zack Morris, whom no one knew of previously, but displayed suprising skill and mettle in reaching the final Round 3 of the Joust. |
What followed next were an exciting trio of matches as each warrior put forth their best in the hopes of winning the title. Lissa managed to place third, winning 10,000 gold and a bronze lance trophy. The mysterious Zack took second place along with the 25,000 gold and valorite lance trophy. Te'Kug the orc fought his way to a stunning victory, winning the title of Champion of the Gyldenfeld Spring Joust, the 50,000 gold purse and a gold lance trophy. When asked to comment on his victory for advice, he merely grunted "CLOMP!", the orc word for smash, slay or to destroy.
The Gyldenfeld Joust is held once each season, this one being the Spring Joust. The next joust is only a few months away, so be sure to keep your lance in good shape. As a sidenote, some generous brigands were kind enough to bring refreshments to the joust with a kettle of stew, although they didn't stick around for long.
In other news, Anton[KCR] of the Keepers of the Crimson Rose gave a tour of the new fortress located in Nidaros(see news below). He is hoping to stage an installment of Storm the Castle soon so check back for updates! The fortress is open to the public and lies at the entrance to Nidaros, strategically situated on the road towards Skara Brae.
As a reminder, Wednesday is Chesapeake Community Night, beginning at 9pm EST at the Community Center in Skara Brae. As always, all are welcome and there is no set agenda - anything can and usually does happen at this weekly event! Hunts, quests or even just socializing.
Thursday is the Fellowship's bi-weekly guild meeting at the guild tower. Please visit the guild message board to take a peek at the agenda for this meeting. Come to the meeting and vote, make your voice heard! A quest is also rumored to be in the making at the Community Center the same evening, beginning at 9pm and hosted by some friendly visitors from Lake Superior.
Friday Night is the infamous Dart Tourney at the Red Wolf Cafe. Beginning at 9pm EST, the tournament brings out the best, and worst, of those who love to hurl sharp pointy things at the wall. John Duke of PaxLair is said to have sworn vengeance and will reclaim his title so he is no longer known as "John Duke, Ex-Dart Champion". Come for the darts, come for the fun, come and watch a man try to regain his honor and respect at all costs(or watch him crumple in despair as he loses at a silly game of darts). Smelling salts will be on-hand as Magni[*V*] and Hyssmaye Erley[*V*] co-host this fun event.
